I’ve spent a lot of time as a Yoga Teacher worrying about how to teach complete classes.
Knowing that students attended mostly for movement and breathwork with a side of inspiration, I found it difficult to highlight deep and rich philosophical concepts between guiding inhale, exhales, and the placement of each foot on the mat.
Beyond that, I often questioned my understanding of the philosophical concepts, was I comprehending them correctly, and was I delivering them properly to students?
In this video, Parampreet Singh discusses 7 common myths about yoga philosophy and offers a more complete and truer version of these ideas.
Yoga Philosophy
In 2014, through the magic of Yoga Teacher Training, I got a lot more comfortable with yoga philosophy. Offering a 200-hour program gave me a gift of time for discussion and self-study.
It became this beautiful and necessary container that helped me help my students understand what yoga truly is.
In 2020, with Yoga Alliance’s help through the allowance of recorded content, we became able to offer even more information and insight into these rich concepts by adding Parampreet Singh, philosophy specialist to our teaching faculty.
By way of recorded lectures included in our 200-hour teacher training program, Parampreet delivers first-hand knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita and the History of Yoga.
Being guided since childhood with these concepts and the ability to read Sanskrit, Parampreet’s understanding is much richer than mine could ever be.
In this week’s video, he discusses 7 common myths about yoga philosophy and offers a more complete and more genuine version of these ideas. How does your comprehension compare?
