Yoga for Everybody…. it’s a nice claim, but do most yoga teachers have the specific skills to make such a statement?
We asked Jivana Heyman, author, and advocate about how to make yoga accessible to everyone. The conversation inspired us to reflect upon our experience as a graduate of yoga teacher training.
Watch now to learn from Jivana about why it’s important to prepare yourself to lead yoga classes that are accessible to everyone and how to do it.

We both acknowledge never being taught to consider modifications beyond the basic use of props, or the long-time go-to solution… rest in the child’s pose.
Making Yoga Accessible is Essential
In recent years, the yoga industry has evolved tremendously and as teachers, we have a responsibility to think about what has been missing in the traditional ways we teach.
We all know that yoga is about more than poses, in fact, asana are only one part of the complete eight-limb path. That one part, however, can make yoga seem impossible or uninviting for some. Making yoga accessible is essential and as Jivana says, ‘it’s not that hard’.
In this inspiring video, he talks about adapting the practice by looking at the spectrum of possibility. He goes on to say that real humanity is represented in spaces where disabled and non-disabled people practice together and that to him, feels the most yogic.
You Can Have Your Own Yoga Teacher Training
Our current Yoga Teacher Training is ending this week and throughout the 200 hours we spent with our students, we spoke in depth about accessible yoga and integrated the concepts into our lesson plans and practices.
It is possible to teach a class with chairs and mats. To see how we did it, enroll in the Yoga Trainer Fast Track. You’ll get the manual, lesson plans, Yoga Alliance registration for your school, and full access to the recordings of the entire delivery of our entire 200-hour program.
