Talking out our emails is my favourite hack.
I’m a super passionate entrepreneur that can talk business forever, but when it comes time to promote and share something interesting in a newsletter, I go blank staring at the computer. If this is true for you, these time-saving hacks that stimulate creativity will really help.
Social media can be fun, however, growing and nourishing your email list is still your best marketing tool. We use the same simple format and super useful hack for every newsletter we send.
The Format We use to Write an Engaging Newsletter
First of all, you may have noticed that each of our newsletters has a format. So when I talk out my newsletter I follow this format that includes:
- An interesting story: told in less than 300 words. Keeps it easy to read. Tell an interesting story about what your readers want to know about. Build a relationship with people on our list.
- The Lesson Learned from the Story: The story alone would be of little use without sharing the point. For instance, our stories are about leading your own Yoga Teacher Training and being a yoga teacher. We’ve done that, we’ve got lots of stories about that! So we share content about what we’ve learned and the lessons of that story is to help you avoid the mistakes that we have made.
- An Invitation or Call to Action: Then we finish the newsletter with a simple call to action inviting you to get more info or watch the video. For you it might be to find out about a series or course.
The Free, Super Helpful Tool We Use to Write: Otter
Then with this format in mind I use a free app called Otter to talk out my newsletter ideas.
This hack lets me capture my thoughts in a conversational way while helping me avoid writer’s block because as I’m talking, the app is transcribing what I’m saying.
I talk into Otter while walking my dog and by the time I get home, I don’t feel stuck at the computer with nothing to say. It’s so much easier to have a pretend conversation, take the transcript, and quickly edit it into a newsletter.

This video includes us using Otter so you can see how this newsletter was generated from a transcript.
Otter likes to call Aruna arena and me clear, so when you use this hack to connect with your clients, expect some editing.
Try Otter for Free
We use the free version and that is what we recommend for you too. If you use our referral code our plan will be upgraded to the Premium Plan for a month. We’ve never tried it so we can’t say if we’ll use it yet.
